Train as a Java programmer, and learn a skill that business is crying out for.

Java technology is used everywhere - in PC's, mobile phones, TV set-top boxes, and the internet. At the same time, trained Java programmers are in short supply. So by taking this course, you can put yourself in line for a huge range of exciting and extremely well paid jobs. 

Although you'll require a basic knowledge of programming fundamentals before beginning your course, no prior knowledge of Java is needed.   But by the end, you'll have gained genuine mastery of Java and will be ready to apply for a job as a specialist Java programmer or developer. To repeat, your new skills will be in high demand. That means you could be looking at a salary of up to £40,000* per annum.


Qualifications

Upon completion of your course you should be ready to sit and pass the following exam:

The Sun Certified Programmer for Java 2 Platform 1.4 (CX-310-035)

This is an industry-recognised qualification designed to demonstrate your skill and confidence as a trained Java programmer.

Your course is divided into two major study sections - Java Programming Fundamentals, and Sun Certified Java Programmer. 

Section 1 – Java Programming Fundamentals

Section 2 - Sun Certified Java Programmer

This section focuses on everything involved in creating Java source files and in defining packages and all forms of classes and interfaces. You will cover the following study topics: 

  • Java Language Fundamentals
  • Java Modifiers
  • Flow Control in Java
  • Operators and Assignments
  • Object Orientation
  • Threads
  • The Collections API

At the end of each chapter of the Java Computer programming course you may complete an optional assignment and submit this to your tutor.

Assignments

The Java Programming Fundamentals section of your course has 21 assessments and reviews, and the Sun Certified Java Programmer section has seven. These assessments and reviews will enable your personal tutor to see your progress, offer helpful feedback, and ensure you're getting the very most from your training.

In addition, you will have the option of completing a total of 29 practical Labs throughout your entire course. Full details of these will be found on the CD-ROM supplied with the course.

Study Details

Your course is designed to allow you to learn at your own pace and in a logical way, with each new study topic building on the knowledge you have already gained. You should expect to complete the course within approximately 120 hours of study.

Note: The minimun computer hardware requirements for this course are;

  • 500MHz or faster processor
  • 120MB RAM or higher
  • 2GB of available hard disk space for installation
  • DVD-ROM drive, broadband Internet access
  • 1024 x 768 or higher resolution screen
  • Your operating system must be at least  Windows 2000(SP4), WindowsXP(SP2), Windows 2003 or Windows Vista.
